It’s actually easier than you think. Creating a ready-to-wear Victoria’s Secret inspired-eye, that can carry you from day to night in just 3 easy steps!
It’s probably one of the most requested eyes or looks, I get asked to do both for the red carpet and on set. The funny thing is it’s actually one of the easiest looks to do – it all comes down to having the right colours and products on hand.
Define and conquer those brows – as they are what frame your eye,s and set the mood. Shading the brows in with a shade similar – or one shade lighter – to the natural shade of your brows will define the brow and give you that Supermodel look. To fill brows and set them in place, I used Laura Mercier’s Definer Brows – a coloured gel/wax formula used to either stroke on like you would a shadow – to fill in any gaps, along with defining & lengthening the arch and tail of the brow. You can also apply by brushing on with a clean disposable mascara wand to colour hairs – making brows look more defined – while also holding them in place!
Contouring & Highlighting
Like your skin, the Victoria’s Secret eye is all about highlighting and contouring. The key to contouring your eyes is to use a similar shade of bronze to the shade you have used to contour your face. This is what’s going to give you that bronzy ‘tonal’ glow. So why not actually make it simple and use the same product? I used Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze and Glow to contour both eyes and face. A duo palette consisting of a bronzer on one side and a highlighter on the other. Contouring the eye and shading along the bottom lash line with the bronzer side of the palette will shape and define your eye in a subtle, yet distinctive way. Tip; Try ‘lightly’ lining the top and bottom lash line with a chocolate-brown pencil and then blending the bronzer out from the lash line toward the contour of the eye – for that little extra definition and drama. Then, with the highlighter side of the Film Star Bronze and Glow, delicately highlight the inner corners of the eyes and the brow bone just like you would your cheekbones. Watch as your eyes begin to shimmer with that signature Victoria’s Secret Glow!
It’s all in the eyes. Building big, soft, fluttering lashes is the final, key element when replicating this eye-catching look. It’s all about getting a false lash effect – top and bottom – but without having to apply lashes. My go-to Mascara is hot-off-the-press Maybelline’s Volum’Express, The Falsies Big Eyes Mascara. It’s simple in it’s design, yet effect in it’s usability. A dual-ended mascara, designed to reach 360 deg of your lashes. The smaller, finer precision brush on one end is specifically designed to trap and capture those tricky to reach bottom lashes. Often, fine and flimsy the bottom lashes can crush on impact with the comb of a normal sized brush – that, or the long bristles of a normal sized brush can smudge the skin with black when you attempt to get to the base of the lashes. Not with this little bad-baby!
Lashes are easily coated with a layer of delicious ‘quick-dry’ black without the mess and stress. Cut to the larger bristle brush on the other end, and you will find a finely bound, long bristle comb with a twist. Angled to enable you to get deep in to the lashes’ roots and to separate the lashes as you sweep up and out given the appearance off a fuller lash. With a focus on creating length, the quick-dry formula is perfect for lashes of all kinds. Note; Curling lashes is a MUST. Twice, just to really open the eye and make the lashes look long and lush when you apply the mascara!
