This week our golden girl is the muse for yellow, the regal hue of intellect, empowerment and control.
You’re a power house that never sleeps. You’re that kid that was selling lemonade at lunchtime and charging classmates for mum’s cigarettes and gum.
How do you know you’re a yellow girl? You were probably Dux at school, an honours babe at uni and are bookmarked for the BRW’s Young & Rich list. You launched your first business and 16 and your parents still keep all your sports trophies on their mantel.
On the psycho-spiritual level, amber hues like yellow, citrine, gold and canary relate to the ego and our sense of self worth, how we feel about ourselves and how we are perceived by others. And it’s no surprise you’re so brilliant, woman – the colour yellow relates to mental agility perception and acquired knowledge.
To stay the golden girl, you have exacting standards – and you’ve been known to send latecomers home, make teams write reports till midnight and re-stuff goodie bags when the wrapping was too basic (those poor interns). Hey, no one climbs to the top by doing sloppy work.
But here’s the cool bit – you’re not all hedge funds and hard work. If you get out before 9pm, you’re a total hoot to go out with. Being the lightest hue of the spectrum, the custard shade is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness and joy.
However, your brain is always downloading new ideas. Even between cocktails, you’ll whip out your smart phone at least 7 times to jot down another mental moment. Yellow is creative from an intellectual aspect, helping us find new ways of doing things.
When you shine, you’re broad minded, good humored, confident and an absolute #inspo be around. But on an off day, I ain’t coming in to work. You’re vindictive, pessimistic and devious, look for flattery from anyone who’ll give it like gluten to a celiac. Feelings of inferiority can get the better of you – basically, you’re the female Patrick Bateman.
But don’t worry beauty, even then we’ll tolerate your energy because you just glow so damn bright. If you’re too dazzling for someone, they can leave the room.
If you’ve been dying to start a business, get a promotion or broadcast your confidence to the world, just wear more yellow. It’s also gorgeous infused with gold or mixed with other colours for a pop of year-round summer. However, you don’t have to be Oprah or Roxy Jacenko to sprinkle some canary in your life. Here are my picks of yellow and champagne products to awaken anyone’s boss-girl.
What separates this yellow pencil apart from the rest -and yes, there’s yellow pencils out there- is it’s delish velvet texture. Despite its “matte” reference, you’ll find a delicate sheen that enables you to apply it smoother than butter and blend effortlessly with no detriment to its glue-like hold! 10/10
So much more than a highlighter, this CT Bar Of Gold transforms skin with gilded highlights that looks like they’re a kiss from the heavens, thanks to how finely milled the powders are! Use on the inner corners of the eyes, cheekbones, cupids bow, brow bone and collarbones for that angel touch. Another tip? Use wet to line eyes for a soft look that will still make those peepers pop.
Not ready for hardcore sparkle? Be careful, cause this is so good it’ll become your gateway drug. This Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner provides a dose of glam-rock -minus the stint in rehab. A water-based, build-able liner contains super-fine glitter in a clear base that dries quickly and REALLY stays put -for long wear without any fallout. Because the glitter is suspended in a gel, it won’t separate in the bottle -so you don’t need to shake it like you do with watery formulas. Peach and cucumber extract condition the skin, while carrot extract sooths and softens. The precise, thin-tipped brush makes it easy to create fine, glittery lines. Want more sparkle? Use the side of the brush to sweep sparkle all over your lids.
4. NARS Eyeshadow in Goldfinger (Metallic Gold)
Love the sound of yellow, but not sure if you can commit? This slick NARS Metallic Gold shadow has a green undertone, making it ideal for layering over bronze/brown shadows for a sweep of shimmering colour. A great look if you’re tired as it brightens darker eyes and brings out green undertones in those with lighter eyes -while downplaying the reds. Tip; For a more intense sultry look apply with a wet brush.
5. Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer #4 (Yellow Gold)
This Yellow Gold liquid luminiser adds an all over dew when mixed in with your foundation – or acts as a concentrated highlight in specific spots like cheekbones when dabbed over the top of foundation. I love this shade in Summer on all skin tones when going for a bronzed goddess look or on skin that through’s a lot of pink or red to colour-correct! Tip; Could be worth looking into for that European holiday in July…
