OCTOBER COVERGIRL WHITNEY EVE PORT

WHITNEY_EVE_PORT_MAXMADE.COM.AU-10

Introducing to the stage September cover girl Whitney Eve Port…

On a recent last minute trip to LA I somehow managed to line up a morning with fashion designer, Author, television personality and friend Whitney Eve Port. Somewhere in-between flying in from NYC and then out to Australia -what are the odds we were swapping continents by hours- we managed to find a few hours to shoot this September Cover Story.

I’ve shot many stories overseas but I’m always gently reminded each time what a challenge it can be to organise a shoot in another country, let alone try to catch someone with a schedule like Whitney’s and all in this situation one of the shortest time frames in history. Whitney’s and my schedule aside there was then the stylist, photographer and even the location schedule to juggle and take into consideration -I’m exhausted just thinking about it. But, what really excites me about these sorts of challenges time and time again is how amazing it is when things do come together – usually in the 12th hour of course-  and what can be done or created in just a few short hours with the right team and passion for creating this moments we call images!
I have worked with Whitney many a time over the last few years and everytime I have done her face or even sat across from her at the dinner table I have witnessed the vision of Whitney made-up like a Hollywood starlet. Maybe it’s her composure, maybe it’s her timeless beauty and Mona Lisa gaze, either way this was the story I wanted to capture and tell in our first collaboration.
This is the story of Whitney playing a Hollywood starlet and the private moments she would have to herself in her change room, right before she walked out onto the stage.
I love the outcome and how each image captures a slight variation in Whitney’s gaze, just enough to leave you wondering what she is thinking or feeling.
In any case – both Whitney, myself and my amazing team are super proud of what we produced and hope that you love it to!   xMM

5 STEP MODERN HOLLYWOOD LOOK
Beauty Notes

1/5
Skin
It’s the finish of the skin that is always what makes this classic look modern. I used 2 parts Armarni Luminous Silk Foundation in #6 -versatile dewy coverage-  and mixed Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow – an instant soft-focus luminous Primer you can mix into your foundation to get that radiant, dewy complexion you see on Whitney! NoteDo not set with a powder yet!

2/5
Cheeks
The key is to give the skin shape but without it being noticeable or beachy! My trick to contouring and highlighting such a complexion is to use a cream. As risky as this sounds it’s actually not. The key is to set the cream which I’ll get to in a minute. I used Tom Ford’s Shade and Illuminate in Intensity 1 – the lightest of the two shades available- to contour Whitney’s cheeks, jaw line and temples. Tip; Once I was happy with the depth I set the cream contour and her foundation with a light layer of translucent finishing powder on the end of a large powder brushTipUse a large powder brush to apply and don’t be afraid to warm any left over powder that remands on the surface of the skin into the foundation & contouring cream using your fingers -in a dabbing motion- so that everything becomes one with your skin! To Finish… highlight the bridge of the nose and cheekbones with the Sheer Illuminating cream in the palette for a light reflecting dewy finish. Prepare to be hooked!
3/5
Eyes
Concentrate on your brows, liner & lashes when complementing such a powerful lip. I filled Witney’s brows with Benefit’s Gimme Brows in Light/medium. This is a tinted brow gel that coats the hair, filling in gaps and freezing the hairs in place for a more groomed effect. To finish I used Model Co’s Lash & Line Superlash Mascara & Liquid Liner to thicken and lengthen Whitney’s lashes and extend the her top lash line. TipTo give this classic Hollywood eye recipe a modern tweak I blended the Illuminate shade from the Tom Ford Shade & Illuminate across Whitney’s eye lids and brow bone to give the eye a chic, 3D glossy feel, minus the stickiness of a gloss.
4/5
Lips
Give your lips the ultimate kiss of modern GLAM with a vivid orange-red lipstick to brighten skin and finish your look with the height of modernism. I used Estsée Lauders Pure Color Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in Impassioned. To build longevity and define the shape of Whitney’s lips I used Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Lip Liner in Red Dynamite.

3 STEP SEXY LIVED-IN HAIR
Hair Notes

1/3
Prep
To get a little volume and lift at the roots while still maintaing a little rawness and texture I sprayed Sachajuan Root Lift Strong Hold -without fail my favourite volumizer atm- through the roots of Whitney’s hair before flipping her head upside down and blowdrying. Tip; Use a combination or your fingers and a paddle brush to lift the hair off the scalp and going in the same direction.

2/3
Tong
I tonged the hair in random sections using a medium size barrel from my H2D Curling Tong. The reason behind this technique is I wanted to create a more lived-in less contrived shape. The key, is to wrap the hair around the tong going AWAY from the face. This allows the wave I wanted to the hair to have the shape of a set but I wanted it to look relaxed and a little slept in so I wasn’t too precious with my sections.

3/3
Texture
To finish I spritzed Balmain’s Texture Spray through the mid-legnths and ends to build texture and a sexy lived-in finish.
