Max Made

It’s what you have been asking for, a Maxmade curated list of the Season’s lightest and brightest HIGHLIGHTERS and a fool proof guide to being a strobing master!

To highlight or strobe is to play with light creating a seductive GLOW across your facial bone structure, enhancing a youthful and healthy glow that will cause everyone in your hemisphere to fall to their knees.

I generally highlight skin in two ways. The first is to mix a liquid luminiser into your foundation before applying to the entirety of your face. Now this method gives you an all over candle light glow. Perfect when skin is dull from the Winter or when you just want to brighten skin. This technique is also great when you need to warm up your Winter foundation come the beginning of Summer. In this situation you can add a bronzer liquid luminizer to your foundation! Amazing right?

The other, is to highlight or strobe all the areas that the sun or a candle would catch. We call these the ‘high points of the face’. This included the top of the cheeks, down the ridge or centre of the nose, on the inner corners of the eyes and brow bones AND if you’re wearing some a little revealing, the collarbones. Now be warmed this highlight emphasises these areas by attracting and reflecting light causing an irresistible glow.

Now, just as a rule of thumb and feel free to come back to this paragraph once you have read over my TOP 5 Maxmade APPROVED HIGHLIGHTERS below, but there is a colour-code to follow. For example, for paler skin tones, use really sheer ‘Beige’ to muted-gold pigments or creams. For medium skin tones, use soft golds and rose-golds. For olive to dark skins tones, use warm golden bronze shades to enhance your facial features.

Remember highlighting or strobing is about creating an energy on the skin so have fun. Use your fingers, try a sponge or have a go at mastering the brush. Find what works for you and gives you your desired effect. Shine on!

Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer

With pretty much every colour under the rainbow to not only illuminate skin but to colour correct and illuminate and use as a makeup base, brightening skin before applying foundation. Fluid Sheers are a translucent illuminating veil that wear like a face polish and can be also plain and simply added to your foundation to add warmth or an all over radiant glow.

A bronzer and highlighter in one, NARS The Multiple in Laguna is a creamy, multi-purpose highlighter designed to lift skin sky high with a sheer golden-bronze highlight. Wash across your eyelids to add depth and water-like reflection of colour and luminosity. Brushed over the apple of the cheeks to highlight and contour cheeks with a natural skin-kissed glow no matter your skin tone. Enriched with Vitamin E, The Multiple comes in 11 tempting shades covering every skin type and desire. Did I ever tell you I collect Nars Multiples? Sssh…

Benefit’s High Beam is legendary in the world of luminisers and highlighter! If you prefer your highlighter a little less pinky or you have more of a yellow undertone in your skin, Watt’s Up should be made a permanent fixture in your makeup routine. This creamy stick of radiance creates more of a glassy finish for both natural and artificial light to bounce off the skin. My general rule when it comes to creams when it comes to longevity is to apply them to more dry, dull skin type – not to put off normal to oily skin types when you desire that more glassy finish.

Giorgio Armani Chinese New Year Highlighting Palette

Let us be among the first to wish you a happy Lunar New Year! Fresh off the press is Giorgio Armani’s Highlighting Palette. A super delicate champagne-beige luminous powder with tiny clear particulars that on the skin create a very sophisticated glowing effect. Like light reflecting off the water and onto the skin, Armani’s limited edition Highlighting Powder has a matte finish! I know right, I was as shocked as you are probably right now – matte? I’ve actually been applying this lust-worthy highlighting palette over the high points of the face with a powder-puff  -rather than the supplied brush- like I would a loose powder! The result – I’ve gone back to David Jones and bought 3 more!

It looks like shimmering sand on site and leaves skin looking like it has been personally kissed by the sun. Dusted over the apples of the cheeks around the inner corners of the eyes and down the centre of the nose will instantly give you a no tan, tanned look! Brushed across the collarbones and the apples of your shoulders for an all-over strobing sensation!

The anticipation of Burberry’s Runway ‘illuminating’ palettes has been HUGE since selling out faster than an Adele concert internationally! And in my opinion rightfully so! Coming in two radiant colours, one a crisp, cool-toned, frosted-white and the other a light-medium muted white-gold, the palettes provide a long wearing runway-inspired highlight that will take your breath away. It’s the White No.1 Palette that has my upmost attention over the past couple of weeks while trailing the two shades. When it comes to fair/porcelain the No.1 Palette takes skin to a whole new realm of luminosity while looking weightless and flawless on skin!

Ellis Faas Glow Ups

A buttery soft, blendable, powder, highlighters that blend into the skin -avoiding any dryness or powdery build up-  giving you more of a true ‘glow from within’ finish! One for every skin colour and effect, Ellis Faas Glow Ups come in 3 radiant shades. S501 a soft pinky-luminous-beige, S502 a neutral luminous beige with gold undertones and finally S503 a warm luminous peach with golden undertones. What separates these from the rest is you actually apply them with a sponge applicator that fits perfectly on the top of the pressed powder highlighter! Glow Ups is the name, and Glow Up is the game!
