No need to get your lips surgically enhanced to achieve that famous “Victoria’s Secret” pout. Look closely at any one of the girls backstage – or even any red-carpet-ready celebrity for that matter – and you will see a carefully placed liner, framing their lips to enhance and exaggerate. So, how does one choose the right shade and perfect such a desirable pout without your own personal makeup artist? I’m glad you asked!
5 STEP LIP LINER FOR BIGGER LIPS
This easy beauty enhancer doesn’t require an endless array of brushes and tools, nor a makeup artist. With the right mistake-proof products and strategy, you can create that elusive “Victoria’s Secret” pout in less than a minute!
Step 1; I always start but painting the outline of the lips with a YSL Radiant Touché #2 – for those with a more olive complexion try 3.5 or 4.5. This light-reflecting concealer works as a weightless primer and enhances the lip-line giving a more pronounced shape. Note; For a seamless finish use your fingers to blend the product into the lips and skin in a dabbing motion.
Step 2; The V section or cupid’s bow as we call it, is always the starting point when lining your lips. With the tip of your pencil draw in 3 dots that mark the 2 top points and the base of the V section of your lip. Laying the pencil on it’s side join the 3 dots together making a perfect cupid’s bow.
Step 3; Start by looking in to a mirror and tilting your chin UP slightly so you are looking down into the mirror. This angle is what is going to give you the right perspective of your lips and also help execute your liner with little to no fuss. Laying the pencil on it’s side in a horizontal angel to your lips, you want to wipe the pencil up and out of the inner corner of your lips, towards the top point of your cupids bow – like a windscreen wiper. Tip; To keep your hand steady and get a balanced line on each side, let the fingers that hold the pencil balance in the middle of your chin – so you can swing your pencil like you would a protractor. Note; With the combination of the angle that you are holding your head to the mirror and the fact that you are using the side of the pencil, you will get a line that is sharp along the outer edge of the lip blending into a soften pre-shaded line as it comes into the lip! Pretty smart huh?
Step 4; To get the right amount of size on your bottom lip start by lining the centre of the bottom lip with the tip of the pencil. Then drag the pencil – on it’s side again – out of the corners of you lips till in meets the centre line you just did.
Step 5; To blend and increase the size of your lips rub your lips together in a IN-AND-OUT motion! This will help blend the liner in to the lip BUT most of all, push the liner just enough over the edge of your lips to increase the size of your lips! Tricky right? Note; NEVER, EVER rub lips in a sideways motion – doing this will make your lips look thinner.
To finish; Always apply lipstick with your fingers. The roundness of your fingers will keep the edges soft and rounded, whilst the warmth of your fingers will blend the pencil and lip colour in together at a perfect ratio.
