If ever you needed inspiration to lob those summer-weary stresses, look no further than Jodi Anasta’s BEYOND new hair transformation.
If you’ve been dreaming about a similar chop, there is a look to inspire you to book in to the hairdresser pronto.
As a busy mum, Jodi was deliberately seeking a low-fuss style that she could wash and wear, without losing its polish. Sound familiar?
With blessings from both daughter Aleeia and bestie Max May, we set about creating some different styles for you to try at home.
To show you how easy it is to wear this lob, I’ve using the same three products on each style featured in the series to show you the cut’s versatility.
Here’s a little step-by-step to hep you get your gorgeous head around this low-fuss look.
STYLE ONE – NICE AND EASY
Jodi says: “I don’t like to do my hair too much. When it’s wet, I just shake it and it’s done. I like it raw and tousled.”
Max says: “This style is all about working to enhance your own texture. In Jodi’s case, she has fairly straight hair so I want to encourage some shape. The key is to use a product that is versatile enough to spread through the hair while it’s damp to build some shape, and either allow to dry naturally or use a diffuser to speed things up.”
Step 1: Starting with damp hair, I parted it down the middle part and raked Tresemme Styling Mousse Extra Control through with my fingers tips, making sure to transfer product to the roots. Depending on how thick or long your hair is, work the mousse in sections and don’t concentrate too much product in one spot. Work product in from the sides, rather than the back. Don’t be afraid to flip your head and work from the under-side up, too! This is great for creating volume and hold. The trick is to not apply the mousse straight to the lengths, but rather finger it through in sections from the roots.
Step 2: Now, we shape the hair. Once your mousse is thoroughly through, tousle the hair with your fingers forward towards the forehead, creating a curtain effect around your face, and securing back behind the ears. Don’t flatten the hair with you palms, but rather whisk it with your fingertips. The raking effect with not only pull out any frizz, but create shape and definition. The pulling action forward over the forehead will create that beautiful shape, while the tuck behind the ear will create that quintessential bend that frames your features.
Step 3: Depending on how much curl you naturally have in your hair, you will gage how much to scrunch the sides and back section. With Jodi’s hair being more on the straight side, I scrunched it a lot! Use the palm of your hand to push the damp hair up and into the back of the head and hold; continue all the way around. This technique stops you from creating unwanted flyways.
Tip: If your hair is curly, brush the hair down with your fingertips, like you did in Step 2.
Step 4: Now comes the hard part (jk). The key is to NOT touch the hair until it dries! If you touch it while it’s damp, you will break the hair apart, and it will lose its shape. Once the style has dried, you can pull it apart with your fingers. Do not brush. Use fingers only to break up the crunchiness of the mousse…
Tip: If your hair goes fluffy, use a smoothing curl-enhancing cream, like I did in Jodi’s hair. I used Elevens Keep My Curl Defining Cream. Its super lightweight to enhance shape and texture sans frizz. Tip: Heat the product between your palms and run your fingers through the area you need it only. Rub your hands together again and use what’s on your fingers to do another section. This avoids over-saturation.
Tip: If your hair is super curly, coarse, or super thick and frizzy, you can layer the Keep My Curl Defining Cream on top of the Tresemme Mousse in the first step. Use the same application tip as the above so you don’t over-apply…
To finish…. add a little bronzer to your cheeks and a punchy stain to your lips and you are ready to roll. It’s all about making a played down statement with this ‘cool girl’ look.
