Max Made

If anyone knows style and what it takes to look effortlessly chic this season, it’s Hermes. On heading up the Makeup team for Hermes’ latest Sydney Trunk Shows, I had the pleasure of implementing one of the strongest trends in makeup & hair this season – direct from their A/W’14 Paris show!
Put down your bronzers, kohl pencils and lip sticks, and draw your focus this A/W to creating fresh, radiant-youthful skin – highlighted with healthy hues of peachy windswept colour on your lips and cheeks, that will ‘brighten’ away even the darkest of ‘wintery blues’.

Same rules apply upstairs in the hair department. Put away your Sea Salt Spray and Texturizing Pomades, and treat & style hair at the same time with moisture trapping and shine building Luxe Oils that will leave hair looking truly sophisticated!

Makeup Notes

Step 1; The key to creating fresh, youthful-looking skin is about using a foundation that is more on the sheerer side of the coverage spectrum. What this does, is lightly even out skin tone while still allowing your natural skin texture to show though! The finish should ‘always’ be more on the luminous/glowy side (for obvious reasons this represents the youthful glow we all crave and talk about). I used Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in this case, and mixed a pea-sized amount of their Radiance Primer ( a gold reflective liquid luminizer) and mixed it into the foundation before applying.

Step 2; For dark circles, redness or any other spots that may need a little extra ‘love and attention’ – use a Concealer to camouflage. Try Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Cream – I recommend one shade lighter than your natural skin tone – and mix a little of your Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer (or any moisturiser) into the concealer to get a beautiful creamy texture which is going to help when it comes to blending and getting the same glossy finish you have with your foundation. Tip; Brush a little of the Secret Camouflage Cream down the centre of the nose, across the top of the cheekbones and a little in the groove under the bottom lip, just on the top of the chin, to highlight and make skin pop!

Step 3; Step away from the bronzers this season (you have no idea how hard that is for me to even say let alone do), and brighten your skin with a youthful flush of colour ‘high’ on the cheekbones to give colour and energy to your skin. I applied Laura Merceir Second Skin Cheek Colour in Sweet Mandarin from just under the outer corners of the pupil, washing back across the cheekbone and fading out before it hits the hair line. Note; I love how using this colour and application blush here not only ‘brightens skin’ but also reflects and brightens the under ‘eye area and eyes’ too!

Step 4; Colour blocking lips with a similar lip colour to the cheeks will complement and brighten your complexion without having to wear a bright heavy lip colour. I used Laura Mercier Lip Crayon in Mayon Sun to stain lips and give them a healthy natural looking sheen.

Hair Notes

Step 1; To get direction in the hair from roots to ends, blow-dry Wella’s Perfect Setting Blow-dry Lotion from roots to ends (concentrating on the roots for volume). To get a poker straight edge to your blow-dry, iron hair from roots to ends.

Step 2; Make a section from just behind the top of the ears meeting just under the crown of the head. Once you have the top section securely in your hands, lightly spray using Wella’s Stay Styled Hair Spray to build hold before brushing smooth and neatly into place. Using an elastic, tightly fasten the hair in place. Tip; Pull a small pice of hair from under the ‘half-up’ pony and wrap around the elastic and pin to finish.

Step 3; To tame flyways, replace moisture from the hair dryer, and add this high-key sheen – warm Wella’s SP Luxe Oil in Light Oil between the palms of your hands and smooth over the top section and through the ends of your style. Note; Sp Wella Luxe Oil also doubles as one of my all-time favourite hair treatments. See my full review here!

Special thanks to Karin and the team at Hermes for having us.
