The MET GALA is on everyone’s lips but it’s the eyes that got us talking. Here is how to try the hottest beauty trend at the event at home!
The MET GALA is on everyone’s lips- dissecting the costumes (too boring), fuming at certain bathroom politics (too smokey) and throwing shade at the perennial group selfie (too obvious).
However, there was one trend – and conversation – that was actually on everyone’s eyes – the pointy return of extreme eyeliner, which had its own party on the face, irrespective of what safe or scintillating creation the rest of the body was swathed in.
We are seeing a resurgence of the bronze lid (hey Sofia), bright and dark metallic flicks like one everyone from Emily R to Reese, an exaggerated contour that can best be described as inter-galactic bond girl, as seen on Gigi and Candace Swaenpoel and an elevated, artistic take on Hollywood eyes, like on Lilly Rose Depp.
Sure, it looks amazing at fashion’s most avant-garde affair – but what can you do if you pine for the look, but just can’t justify a flick to your ear lobes at that 9am meeting?
See below for MM’s down-to-earth interpretation on new liner looks that will be at home in reality, yet still retain their other-worldly appeal.
‘Whether you use a smokey bronze shadow to shade your lid, or a more delicate shade of peach or golden, the nude liner will look at home in a non-intimidating version of the iconic eyeliner look! If you really want to jazz things up and give your eyes a more intergalactic feel, use a metallic blue, green or even silver!’ x MM
The New New Eyeliner Look…
Step 1: Once lashes are curled and before mascara has been applied (so as not to get any nude liner on the back of your mascaraed lashes) you can apply your liner. Use the base of your curled lashes as a resting-guide to balance your freshly sharpened pencil to line your nude eyeliner. The key is to use the side of the pencil’s tip rather than the end. This technique will help you keep the pencil more sturdy and create a more consistent and even line with less know-how. Tip: Always start your liner from the inner corner of your eye, working your way out to where your lashes end.
Step 2: Now there would be absolutely nothing wrong with stopping there and maybe smudging the edges of the liner with a cotton tip for a more subtle version of the above. In fact you’ll probably agree, that tiny little nude line you’ve just drawn has made your eyes look bigger, more awake and even bought out your eye colour! But, if you want to master the full effect of the flick, read on to step 3!
Step 3: So how do you choose an angle and length of your flick?
Turn your pencil upside down and place the side edge (somewhere near the end of the pencil) on the outer corner of your nose. Carefully line the middle of the pencil up with the out corner of your eye. By now, the tip of the nude liner will be somewhere near your brow. Pull the pencil back towards your chin till the tip of your pencil is somewhere between the brow and the outer corner of your eye. Using this angle, choose a spot where you feel you would like your liner to end, making a mark with the nude pencil! Now all you have to do (with a little confidence) is join that very dot you’ve just made, to the liner you already drawn to the top of your lash line!
Boom… one nude liner down… Now just repeat on the other eye!
Maxmade approved liners…
Charlotte Tilbury ROCK ‘n’ KOHL in Eye Cheat
CT’s Iconic Liquid Eyeliner in Eye Cheat (nude) goes on like a liquid dream but has the hold of a wax-like kohl. With a soft creamy pink hue this nude liner never looks intimating rather like it belongs there.
MAC Studio Cromagraphic Pencil in NC42/NW35
More on the yellow side of the nude colour wheel, MAC’S (NC42/NW35) Nude Pencil for me is all about the firmness of the colour or should I say the sharper edges I can create!
By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow Sticks
Designed to be used as and eyeshadow, Im actually obsessed with running a flash of contrasting colour to my eyeshadow or my subjects eye colour along the top lash line. The effect is a vivid, 3 dimensional effect that makes your eyes pop! The application is fool -proof for even the most makeup-challenged that can really bring your day-to-day eye-makeup to life!
