Who says short hair can’t be versatile? For Jodi, this fun, effervescent look was a total departure from her ‘good girl’ persona.
Growing up, becoming a woman… and having more gun with your look – all tenets that sum up Jodi’s playful vibe when it comes to her hair.
“This cut represents a new stage of independence and fearlessness,” she says, “and taking a risk with the way you look. I’m not hiding behind my hair. I’m just free to be me!”
It’s hard not to feel a sense of liberation in the room as Jodi swishes her head and dances to the music, enjoying the bounce in both her waves and her movements during our latest photoshoot.
Dance along with these flirty waves and spice up your life with our how-to guide to the look below.
LOOK THREE – CURLS GET THE GIRLS
Jodi says: “Max tonged my hair into tiny little ringlets, and I so want to redo this look! It’s completely different to how I see myself – or what my style has normally been associated with, so it’s a hairstyle people won’t expect from me.”
Max says: “So many girls think this cut is not for curly hair… and that is wrong! As you can see, this style with a curl looks so major! Its adds volume to any cut, specially one that is textured and deliberately cut ‘inconsistent’ for a modern look. It’s also a fab option if you want to create a head-turning, WOW moment.
Step 1: If your hair is naturally curly, you need to start with it damp or wet from the shower. Scrunch through large dollops of Tesemme Styling Mousse Extra Control and use a towel to scrunch or push sections of hair up and into the head. Hold each section for a few seconds and repeat all the away around. I love to do this on my self (I have curly hair) while my head is upside down. This will allow you to build volume and curl on top the head (where it is most important) as well as the sides and back. Once that is through, repeat, but this time using the Eleven Curl Enhancing Cream. While the Mousse is great for control, hold and enhancing the curl, the Cream is going to manage frizz and add a softness, stopping the hair from going too crunchy!
If your hair doesn’t have any curl, just apply the Tresemme Styling Mousse alone and scrunch through the hair.
Step 2: Whether your hair is naturally curly or not, flip your head is upside down and use the diffuser attachment to dry your hair completely. Also use the diffuser to push hair up close to your head, scrunch the hair into the scalp and holding for an enhanced curl. Leave the hair dryer on low, so the heat is mild and doesn’t burn! I use REMINGTONS Air 3-D Dryer as it has awesome diffuser attachment and 3 heat and speed settings, allowing for flexibility and easy adjusting.
Step 3: Now that your hair is dry, here comes the fun bit. Using a small tong such as REMINGTON Keratin & Argan Oil Nourish Curler (I used a 16mm one for Jodi ), start picking up small sections of hair and wrapping around the tong as tightly as you can. If your hair is naturally curly, try not to break the natural curl – rather, work with the ones the mousse already created. Just choose select strands around the top hair line, or pieces that need some love. Tip: Don’t fight it, always go with your natural curl and make sure you wrap the hair with its natural direction.
If you hair is not naturally curly, start from the bottom of your hair and work your way up, grabbing random pieces and wrapping around the curler. Try wrapping in random directions, such as one back and one towards the face, to create more natural movement. Use your Moroccan Oil Luminous Hair Spray to protect your hair from the heat and build hold. Tip: Take your time and don’t be too particular. Some randomness is nice and will create a sexier finish.
To finish… Once your hair is fully cooled (remember, the cooling of the hair is what freezes it in the shape), shake it out. Use your fingers to rake the hair and LIGHTLY pull the hair apart. Don’t brush it or RUSH this part – you don’t want to turn it into a fluff ball, and you will if you don’t take you time.
To define individual curls and tame fly-aways, heat a pea-sized amount of ELEVEN Keep My Curl Defining Cream between the palms of your hands and, using the product that’s on your finger tips only, shape separate pieces.
Flip your head upside down, spray with hairspray and flip it back up. Repeat to finish. A side part or FLICK, as I call it, is the best way to wear this style!
