Have perfect hair for days when you learn how easy it is to recreate Jodi’s loose luxe waves at home.
When Jodi Anasta cut her hair last week, it set the internet ablaze. Confident, assured and low-fuss, we know this lob will inspire a wave of requests across Australia.
“I will always admire long, beautiful hair”, Jodi concedes, “but this haircut is a completely different feeling. I feel like there is an elegance, a chicness, an editorial fashion element about it.”
Channel blue blood pedigree without a degree in using tongs – this look is perfect if want to look done and polished at the speed of light. Indeed, this is a style I can imagine on all the the coolest girls strutting into Carriageworks for Fashion Week next month.
If you’re thinking about the chop, but not sure how to style it, then check out how easy it is to recreate these low-key luxe waves at home.
LOOK TWO – THE WAVE
Jodi says: “This look is soft and pretty… and I’ll definitely wear it when I am feeling like something girly and a departure from the messed up look I’m currently obsessed with.”
Step 1: There’s a reason why hairstylists use mousse! First up, it’s super versatile, meaning you can use it on every hair type and create any style with it, making our kits that much lighter. I started this style by running Tresemme Styling Mousse Extra Control through sections of Jodi’s hair. I really made sure to get it right on the roots this time! Use your fingers to create big sections and paint the mousse on the roots of each section with your hands. Then, rake it through the mid-lengths and as close to the ends using your fingers tips. Keep repeating this till you get to the top…
Step 2: Once you have worked the product through your hair, it’s time to dry it. I flipped Jodi’s head and used my fingers to press the product into the hair as it dried. This technique is also great for creating volume on fine or flat hair.
To finish, I turned Jodi upright and used the Lady Jayne Vaddle Brush to blow-dry the front hair line and slightly stretch out the ends. Do it in big sections, and only if you feel like your hair has too much bounce. Don’t over blow dry! I used REMINGTON 3-D Hair Dryer and one of the control nozzles to hold the hair in the Vaddle in place.
Step 3: Start with a 2-2.5inch section and break in a further 2 or 3 pieces. Curl hair away from the face to frame and open up your features. Look how the cheeks and jaw pop on the above image of Jodi! I used the REMINGTON PROluxe Twist To Curl Flat Iron. It’s a small thin flat iron that will make it easier to hold shorter hair than a traditional curling wand and will give you a better wave in shorter hair. Repeat on both sides, going around as far as the back of your ears.
Step 4: When curling the back of your lob, you only need to do the top section. We need the underneath strands to remain straight so as to retain the style’s fullness! Imagine the back of your head is an orange and you are cutting it into slices with you fingers. For real! Then grab this section and twist it in the clamp of the tong.
To finish… Once your hair is fully cooled, rake the curls with your fingers. To keep the texture as is, finish with a lightweight brush-able spray with shine, like Moroccan Oil Luminous Hair Spray. For a more luxe, brushed out finish like Jodi, use your Lady Jayne Vaddle Brush to brush out the waves, then finish with the Luminous Hair Spray.
