We Weigh In On The Best Premium “Dr.” Skincare Lines

Doctors are the new skincare celebs, and now you don’t have to wait for a lucrative appointment at their booked-out clinics – thanks to their namesake ranges.

They have carved out lucrative, celeb-filled clinics for themselves, thanks to their expertise and decades of medical-grade research when it comes to skin health. This is the real deal. They’re doctors!

So rather than stress that you’ll never likely get an appointment with these dermal virtuosos, hot-foot to these eponymous ranges to recreate these reliable results at home.

With both an Aussie and line-up in our sites, here is the MM-tested and approved roundup of the best “Dr.” ranges – for a myriad of skin concerns.

Dr. Barbara Sturm

Heard of the Vampire Facial? Well, of course, you have.  As Kim Kardashian’s go-to aesthetician who created the now-cult vampire facial, the waitlist for a consultation with the legendary Dr. Barbara Sturm is extremely long.

Thankfully, you can now sample Sturm’s anti-ageing expertise at home with her high-performance range. Inspired by her innovative treatments, these potent products work at a cellular level to transform skin.

Dr. Barbara Sturm started her career as a surgeon, developing treatments for her patients using their own proteins. In 2014, she launched her line of non-invasive, highly efficacious, botanical treatments with heroes like The Facial Scrub, packed with potent active ingredients that promote cell renewal,  and The Glow Drops, which work at the molecular level to refine pores and plump for retrieving youthful bounce and healthy radiance back to skin.

As well as KKW, Shanina Shaik, Karolina Kurkova and Gigi Hadid are all fans.

Best for – hydration and a radiant glow.

Dr. Hauschka

Who hasn’t heard of these natural beauty pioneers?

Another German export, Dr. Hauschka beauty products were first launched in 1967 as an extension to their original medicine range and now consist of an extensive range of certified natural skin care and colour cosmetics.

Based on the powerful natural rhythmic alternation of darkness and light, warmth and cold, movement and rest, Dr. Hauschka products are certified by NATRUE, based on sustainable and biodynamic practices and not tested on animals.

Hero products include The Firming Mask with combine rose water, petal extract, wax and essential oil to support your skin’s elasticity and diminish the appearance of fine lines and the Rose Day Cream, which smells as heavenly as the rest of this biodynamic range.

Best for – organic nourishment.

Mayerling Skincare

Multi award-winner and Sydney-based cosmetic surgeon D.r Lawrence Ho, founded Mayerling in 1993, when his results-based research led him to develop a brand that achieves clinical results with minimal effort and without any downtime.

His Mayerling system is based on the premise that for the skin’s texture to be improved, it must be resurfaced. In other words; to allow new, healthy skin cells to regenerate, the old surface skin cells need to be removed.

A highly regarded innovator in his field, Dr. Ho has been formulating clinical peels and supplying the professional beauty industry for over 20 years. The Mayerling skincare range combines highly active ingredients such as Vitamin C, Bearberry Extract, Retinyl Palmitate and antioxidant vitamins, using the latest in delivery system technology.

Best for – skin resurfacing and rejuvenation.

Dr. Dennis Gross

Remember when Samantha had that peel on SATC?

Indeed, back in the ’90s, it was easy to mistake women who endured glycolic peels for burn victims – until Dr. Dennis came along.

Not content with just 25 years’ experience as a dermatologist, extensive skin cancer research and contributions to numerous dermatology textbooks, Gross made his very own award-winning skincare range, being one of the first to harness the exfoliating power of AHA acids.

Using a combination of acids (including glycolic) Dr. DG aims to provide skin-renewing results without the irritation or downtime.

His signature Alpha Beta Peel was heralded as the “lunchtime peel” because it allowed women to get right back to work after the treatment. After patients requested samples of the product to use at home, Dr. Gross devised a more gentle version, which helped mark the launch of his brand in 2000.

Molly Sims, Olivia Palermo and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are many fans of his 30 strong product line.

Best for – skin discolouration, acne scarring and sunspots.

Dr. Roebucks

Dr Roebuck’s story started in Bondi Beach, led by surf-loving twins Kate and Zoe. As children, their active lifestyle came with dry, sensitive skin and eczema, so their clever parents (both doctors, hence the name), formulated a unique, low-ingredient and simplified emulsion which immediately soothed and cleared their irritated skin.

With their confidence restored, the daughters learned and trialled their parents’ process, to distil that powerful technology into a range of simple, clean skincare products.

With no fillers, synthetic chemicals, or unnecessary scientific names, the pure, active ingredients are a dream for sensitive skins, with cruisy names like names like Noosa, Lifesaver, Perky and No Worries for their range of moisturisers and serums.

Tassie is their Anti Pollution Serum for stressed or depleted skin, Surf Chaser is an anti-aging gel for that youthful, post-facial glow. Cruelty-free and Aussie all the way, each product is infused with pure ingredients from home, such as water from a local Australian spring!

Best for – treating eczema and sensitive skin.

Dr. Jart+

The Dr. Jart+skincare line was created in Korea in 2004 by Dr SungJae Jung exclusively for his patients. A few years later, he joined forces with friend and businessman JinWook Lee to market the dermatologist-approved beauty balms on an international scale and opened its first boutique in New York City in 2008.

Continuing to create new skin care products for both men and women, those covetable BB creams have been joined by an ever-expanding line of serums, masks and creams to treat flaky skin, men’s concerns acne scars and uneven skin tone.

Best recognised for their quirky, rubbery hydration face masks, all Dr. Jart+ skin care products have been dermatologist tested and are cruelty-free, safe to use when pregnant or nursing.

Best for – Treating dark spots and acne.
